Setup

Start from a dead hang, palms toward you at about shoulder width, and pull the chest toward the bar. When bodyweight becomes too easy for a hard single set, scale the load rather than the reps — the machine equivalent is the HIT lat pulldown.

Cadence

Pull until the chin clears the bar, then lower to a full hang under control. The negative is the honest part of the rep, the same as any set taken to failure.

Where failure occurs

When you stall below the bar despite full effort — that is momentary muscular failure, not the point where it first gets hard. Train to failure safely →
